Broken Mask - previously 'Myth Making':
Broken Mask is a gothic adventure aimed at children aged 10 +. I am currently seeking representation for this project.
Broken Mask was Highly Commended in the novel category of the 2008 Yeovil Prize (under the title Myth Making) and I also won the Western Gazette Award for a local writer.
When Poppy Lovegrove joins her explorer father in his search for a missing friend, the world suddenly becomes a stranger and more dangerous place than she has ever imagined. But nothing can prepare her for just how weird, and how frightening, things are going to get when they finally find the missing man.
Who would have thought that disguising herself as a boy so that she could join her father on his adventures could get her into so much trouble...
"At first she thought it really was a beast, some devilish monster covered in brown hair, a bear or a giant dog. And then it turned and she gasped. It was a man – but no ordinary man - it was the wolfman from Sergei’s freak show. He looked straight at her, jaundiced eyes flecked with red, and blood was running from his mouth, and somehow she knew that the blood was not his. She swallowed hard but couldn’t break away from his stare. He started to move towards them and Poppy couldn’t move. She wanted to run, and everything in her, every nerve, every sinew, was screaming at her to flee, but she couldn’t respond. She was frozen to the spot and the wolfman came closer, madness in his eyes."
